On Sewing

Heather at A Place of Quiet Rest posted this quote on Tuesday:
"It is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied."
- Nathanial Hawthorne

What a great picture. At my visit to the Met this week I viewed a painting called 'The Shepherdess - Plains of Barbizon' circa 1862 by J F Millet. In it the shepherdess is standing by her flock engrossed in her knitting. I wanted to buy a postcard of it but there wasn't one. I've also looked online for an image but to no avail. It appears that Millet did several 'Shepherdess' paintings but this particular one is not so well known.
Anyway, I love looking at paintings where the subject matter is women sewing, knitting, crocheting etc so it was lovely to look at your blog this morning.
